Elverta Road from Highway 99 to East Levee Road will be closed to traffic for nearly two months beginning Aug. 19.
The closure is required to expedite completion of the Highway 99 at Elverta Road interchange project, according a Sacramento County Department of Transportation news release. West Elverta Road from Highway 99 to Metro Air Parkway has been closed since August 2012.
The closures affect eastbound and westbound traffic, including motor vehicles and bicycles, on Elverta Road from Metro Air Parkway to East Levee Road.
As part of the interchange project, the existing traffic signal will be removed, and access to and from Highway 99 at Elverta Road will be temporarily unavailable during the closure.
The closures will be in effect until mid-October.
The new interchange will replace the existing at-grade signalized intersection at Highway 99 and Elverta Road. Major elements of the project include:
Construction of a new interchange with ramp meters and high-occupancy vehicle bypass lanes on all freeway onramps.
Widening and reconstruction of approximately one mile of Elverta Road.
Addition of bicycle lanes and sidewalks.
Relocation of existing drainage canals.
Two new traffic signals at the terminus of the freeway off-ramps.
Drought tolerant landscaping in the four quadrants of the interchange.
