Re "A diocese's darkest day" (Page A1, Aug. 11): Out of the darkest day, transparency, clarity, and light have emerged in the Sacramento Catholic Diocese.
I commend Bishop Jaime Soto for the appropriate and swift handling of an allegation of clergy abuse. The dark days of ignoring such complaints, seem to have disappeared.
I was pleased to see that a factual and human article was written about the tragic fall of a "rock star" priest. The victim of this horror was treated respectfully and not ignored. I am delighted that she had the courage to report the abuse to her parents, who in turn took the proper steps to apprehend the abuser.
This young woman's courage should inspire others to report abuse, even when the perpetrator is viewed as a family friend or relative. My other hope is that Father Uriel Ojeda will be swiftly defrocked by Rome. May his prison sentence be a time of redemption.
