The California Supreme Court today declined to hear arguments in a suit brought by Proposition 8 proponents to halt gay marriage in California.
The suit, filed July 12 by Folsom attorney Andrew Pugno, had also requested an emergency stay to keep the state's clerk recorders from issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples. The court ruled within days not to issue that injunction.
Same-sex marriage resumed in California on June 28, days after the U.S. Supreme Court refused to review a lower court decision saying that Proposition 8, the voter-approved ban on gay marriage, was unconstitutional.
