Off to the Races
What: Sample food and wine while raising funds for performing, literary, cultural and visual arts organizations at this event organized by the nonprofit Race for the Arts. Expect assorted hors doeuvres and wines and live music from El Dorado Musical Theatre. To whet your appetite: Capital Confections will be on hand with a gelato as a tribute to Sacramento artist Wayne Thiebaud.

Bedtime at Fairytale Town
What: Forego the wilderness and instead pitch your tent outside Humpty Dumpty's house after an evening of theater, crafts, a scavenger hunt, bedtime stories and a sing-along. Before breaking camp, youll get a light continental breakfast.

What: Inspired by the lore that is ancient and multicultural of sea creatures that are half-fish and half-human, fans of mermaids will take to the boardwalks of historic Old Sacramento for the third annual Mermaid Promenade. And where you see mermaids, youll likely also see mermen and sea-going types such as pirates and sailors. Professional mermaids will be on hand. Registered participants compete for prizes for best costumes in adult and child categories.
