Former Sacramento State player and longtime assistant Lori Perez has been named the interim softball coach for the Hornets.
She replaces Kathy Strahan, who recently retired after 21 years as Sac State's coach.
Perez, then known as Lori Meixner, was a four-year infield starter for the Hornets from 1999 to 2002 and is the school's career fielding assists leader (495). She has been a Hornets assistant coach for nine years.
Since the Petaluma native became the team's pitching coach in 2005, Hornets hurlers have received 13 all-conference selections. Last season's team ERA of 2.33 was the best in the Big Sky Conference.
