Sacramento area forecast: sun, smoke and mid-90 temps

Sunny skies, hot weather and smoke are in the forecast for Sacramento today.

Sacramento temperatures will gradually dip to slightly below normal for mid-August after the weekend, according to the National Weather Service. Expect highs to move from the upper 90s to the low 90s.

Smoke from the growing American Fire - nearly 4,000 acres acres burned in the Tahoe National Forest since Saturday - continues to impact visibility and air quality in the area, and it will continue to for several more days. Winds have channeled smoke into the the eastern Sacramento Valley this morning, but onshore flow should dissipate it by the afternoon.

Meanwhile, an offshore low pressure is approaching, which brings a chance of thunderstorms over the mountains Tuesday and Wednesday.

Today: Sunny and hot, with a high near 97. South southeast wind 5 to 7 mph.

Tonight: Clear, with a low around 62. South southwest wind 7 to 10 mph.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 95. South southwest wind around 8 mph.

Friday night: Clear, with a low around 60. South wind 10 to 13 mph.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 95. South southwest wind around 8 mph.

Saturday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 59.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 95.

Sunday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 60.

Monday: Sunny, with a high near 93.

Monday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 60.

Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 92.

Tuesday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 60.

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 91.
