WayUp Sacramento, a program of the Nehemiah Community Reinvestment Fund, has been awarded a $300,000 planning grant from the California Endowment.
The grant will help fund a community building and assessment process in the city's Oak Park neighborhood.
"These funds will go a long way toward developing a sustainable strategy for addressing the needs and challenges young people and their families face in the Oak Park community," said Sacramento City Councilman Jay Schenirer, founder of WayUp.
WayUp ultimately aims to compete for a larger, multi-year implementation grant from the U.S. Department of Education.
WayUp is a partnership among the city, education and health systems, as well as business, community and nonprofit organizations. It focuses on improving education, health, home ownership and employment in the community.
