Re "Novelty races pick up speed" (Our Region, Aug. 14): The article should have been titled, "Novelty races pick up cash"profiteering off of the naive participants.
They are carpetbaggers rolling into town to take our cash and treat our non-profits scandalously. The charity in this event was paid $14,000. If the net profit was $500,000 then the charity received a donation of 3 percent of the net profit.
Is that legitimate to call it a "benefit for" or a "charity run" if the for-profit-company makes 97 percent of the proceeds?
Next, is it fair to pay for volunteers at about $4/hour to the charity?
I think that the carpetbaggers, companies like The Electric Run and Rugged Maniac, that are profiting off of our community and our customers should be run out of town!
