Highs could reach triple-digits this weekend in Sacramento, as temperatures are expected to peak Sunday before dipping into milder weather.
The National Weather Service predicts a high of 95 today, which should rise over the weekend to 99 on Sunday. Starting Tuesday, forecasters expect highs in the low-90s to upper-80s all week.
Off the coast, a lower pressure is forecast to develop over the weekend and then slowly move onshore. This will lead to a high likelihood of thunderstorms over the mountains Tuesday and Wednesday.
Smoke continues to be an issue as the American Fire in the Tahoe National Forest rages on. The NWS expects the smoke's behavior to follow the same pattern into the weekend, with smoke channeled in the foothills overnight, in the eastern Sacramento Valley in the morning and cleared out by the afternoon.
