Sacramento police late Saturday night were looking for a man who shot and killed an adult male earlier in the evening in a residence in the 3300 block of Nareb Street.

Police said the shooting occurred at 6:40 p.m. in an area just south of the intersection of Interstate 80 and Norwood Avenue.

Police spokesman Officer Doug Morse said multiple shots were reported at the scene, and the victim later died as a result of a single gunshot wound.

Morse said witnesses reported “some sort of altercation” inside the residence, and there were “multiple subjects at the residence” at that time.

Police are still investigating the origin of the reported altercation.

After 9:30 p.m., a police helicopter was circling the area after a report of a suspicious male in the area, traveling on foot. An on-the-ground search also had commenced, and police had set up a perimeter in the general area of the shooting.
