Re "McKinley Village fits city goals" (Letters, Aug. 15): The proposed McKinley Village development is inappropriate for the area.
East Sacramento residents have raised serious questions that are not answered by the developer.
Sewage and water systems for this development will tie into East Sacramento's overloaded systems. There will not be any transit service to this development, hence it will not be a walkable community.
The area is not within the Sacramento City Unified School District boundaries. If boundaries are changed, local schools will be adversely impacted.
How does the developer know that 100-year flood protection will remain? Besides flooding what about a potential train derailment?
What is the timeframe to evacuate residents through a tunnel under the levee? How will that evacuation affect current residents' ability to leave the area?
Other concerns include Union Pacific extending the right of way to build new tracks for high speed rail.
