Re "Hansen revealed as petition backer" (Page A1, Aug. 17): Instead of being secretive, Chris Hansen should have declared his $100,000 donation to gather signatures to force a vote on the Kings arena. Consequently, voting on the sports arena has now become murky.
Regardless of Hansen, don't citizens have a right to vote on the arena subsidy? After all, it will be funded by $258 million of taxpayers' money. Don't forget all the valuable property surrounding it -- taxpayers' property. Once the arena is completed, the cost will probably have skyrocketed. Also, the traffic around the arena will be enormous.
Why can't the city afford the "Claw" to pick up residents' garbage, yet can afford a fabulously expensive arena? Citizens should be allowed to vote on the arena, since they will be adversely affected.
