A.J. Jenkins and the Chiefs' Jon Baldwin were two of the big storylines from Friday's game in Kansas City because both continued to be disappointments with their respective teams. Now they'll both try to start over with the opposite team.

The Chiefs today were the first to announce they had traded Baldwin, the 26th overall pick in the 2011 draft, for Jenkins, the 30th overall pick in the 2012 draft. Baldwin (6-4, 230) started 10 games the last two seasons in Kansas City and caught 41 passes for 579 yards and two touchdowns.

"We would like to thank A.J. for his efforts as a member of the 49ers and wish him all the best with the Kansas City Chiefs," 49ers general manager Trent Baalke said a few minutes later in a statement. "We are pleased to add Jonathan to our team and look forward to incorporating him into our offense. Both players have been presented a great opportunity for a new beginning with their respective teams."

Jenkins, as every 49ers fan knows, has yet to catch a pass in an NFL game. He was inactive for 11 games as a rookie last year and he dropped the only pass that came his way. But his swiftness and fluidity likely is intriguing to coach Andy Reid and the new West coast offense he is installing in Kansas City.

Jenkins also is familiar to quarterback Alex Smith. The Chiefs and the 49ers, of course, did business in February when San Francisco sent Smith to Kansas City for two draft picks.
