Democrats pushing gun control laws should beware voters' ire

Published: Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013 - 7:08 am

Democratic legislators are in a mad dash to pile new gun control laws onto our state's already long list. By their own admission, they intend to restore California's position of having the toughest gun control laws in the country. What Democrats fail to understand is that gun ownership, participation in shooting sports and unwavering support for the Second Amendment transcends political party affiliations as well as gender, age, ethnic, socioeconomic and other boundaries.

Gun owners have also proven time and again that they have long memories and don't treat kindly at the ballot box politicians who assail their rights. So if Democratic legislators and Gov. Jerry Brown continue down this path, they should expect to suffer a significant voter backlash during the 2014 elections.
