Re "Court case may derail bullet train" (Dan Walters, Aug. 20): Does any sane and rational person really believe the bullet train is a good investment of tens of billions of taxpayer dollars? Sure, those billions of dollars will provide bunches of high-paying and over-priced jobs. They'll also make lots of well-connected business owners rich. All at the expense of suckered voters who naively believed the words they approved in the 2008 ballot measure.
Voters (and taxpayers) thought they had an ironclad commitment that would protect them from another colossal waste of their money from another government fantasy project. But they underestimated the ability of government officials to ignore plain language and charge off to do whatever they want. After all, the money they squander, isn't theirs. If the bullet train is rammed through, it will be a suicide bullet killing the last pretense that a law means what it says.
