During the congressional August recess, I attended Rep. Ami Bera's Congress on Your Corner town hall meeting in Citrus Heights on Monday evening. Instead of having constituents ask him questions directly he had us write them down on index cards. The cards were then picked through by a Citrus Heights City Council member and she chose which questions to ask the congressman.
All night he refused to take a firm position on any subject, calling for "new laws" on immigration (without stating what those new laws should consist of) and seeming unfamiliar with knowing when the last budget was passed. After the congressman was done answering his handful of filtered questions, he quickly slipped out the side door without shaking any of his constituent's hands.
