Re "S.F. threatens to sue Nevada" (Page A1, Aug. 21): Being a psych nurse in Washington State, I can tell you first hand we have received many patients from California late at night, with no follow up, no advance notice.
I have also worked in Las Vegas, and most of our patients came to gamble, drink and use drugs. When the money ran out, they come to the hospital to get food, shelter and transportation out of area. These patients on a whole are not so sick that they don't know how to access the system to get what they need.
California is not the victim in this. They have done this for years as well. Just ask Oregon or Washington health administrators; they will verify the influx of California patients on our systems up here.
