Tesla Motors Inc., the Palo Alto-based producer of high-end electric cars, wants to open a repair and service center along Interstate 80 in Rocklin.
Under plans submitted to the city, Tesla would operate the center in more than 15,000-square-feet of space at 4361 Granite Drive, near the Sierra College Boulevard exit off I-80.
The site was once a Kia dealership operated by the local Lasher Auto Group.
A spokesman for Tesla said "we do not have a comment on this subject at this time."
The Rocklin building is already geared to automotive, meaning the service center could open within a few weeks, pending approvals.
Tesla has been expanding sales/service operations as increasing numbers of its still relatively limited-production electric vehicles have been appearing on U.S. roadways.
