Re "Arena fans ask more of Hansen" (Our Region, Aug. 21): I can understand why a group of citizens want a Kings arena in Sacramento, subsidized in part by the city. I can also understand why a group of citizens does not want that.
What I do not understand is why those who favor the arena are opposed to a vote on it.
It seems to me that the obvious course ought to be a public vote in which those who favor the city-subsidized arena argue their case and those who oppose it argue theirs and the voters choose, based upon the persuasiveness of the two arguments.
Failure to do that seems to me more in keeping with the recent coup in Egypt in which a very powerful group (the military) effectively countermanded the will of a majority of voters than with democratic government.
Is that where we are headed in Sacramento, rule by an business and political elite?
