Re "City Council eases limits on big-box superstores" (Page A1, Aug. 21): Kudos to Sacramento City Council member Darrell Fong, who speaks up for our neighborhood of Z'Berg Park (East Pocket) more than Jay Schenirer, who doesn't seem to know where we are.
Fong clearly knows the one spot WalMart would want is Delta Shores. This could be a place to make the entrance into the city specia, a transition from open space. Yet the council's decision to make a WalMart possible, with all the pressure to follow about visibility and signage along I-5, muddies the development opportunities.
Sacramento, as the capital city of the state, should have great entrances from north and south off I-5. At Pocket Road, we are not only the entrance to the city, but also the entrance to the Delta, the Pocket area and the Meadowview area. Bonnie Pannell has done a good job in her district.
Now, we need to make views from I-5 worthy of a great city.
