A sinkhole that closed the inside eastbound and westbound lanes of Interstate 80 near Truckee this morning has been filled and both lanes have reopened.

The hole, which opened in the freeway's median during early-morning paving work, was filled with slurry, a cement mixture, said Rochelle Jenkins, a public information officer for the state Department of Transportation.

Jenkins said the eastbound lane opened about 2:45 p.m.

The westbound lane opened about 10:40 a.m., according to Gilbert Mohtes-Chan, a Caltrans information officer, who said the hole was closer to the eastbound lanes.

Mohtes-Chan said the cause of the sinkhole is as yet unknown.
