Saturday's 24th annual Lake in the Sky Airshow in South Lake Tahoe has been canceled because of poor air quality caused by two large wildfires outside the Tahoe basin.
Also canceled are Sunday's Young Eagles Flights, said Tracy Franklin, the city's public information officer, in a news release.
Dave Johnston, El Dorado County's air pollution control officer, has advised that visibility has been reduced to one mile and that air-quality conditions are at an "unhealthy" rating, Franklin said.
However, a preshow party -- a free event that's open to the public -- will still take place from 5:30 to 9 p.m. today at the Flight Deck Restaurant, 1901 Airport Road.
Special guest speaker World War II Triple Ace "Bud" Anderson is still confirmed, Franklin said, as well as Vietnam fighter pilots Pete "Viper" Pettigrew and Mike "Wizard" McCabe. The party will also feature live music and food specials.
