NEW YORK Mark Sanchez's banged-up right shoulder will keep him out of the New York Jets' preseason finale.
Whether he's also out of the team's quarterback competition remains to be seen.
The Jets announced Sunday that Sanchez is "day-to-day" with an injured shoulder that will sideline him for the team's preseason finale against Philadelphia on Thursday night. Sanchez, competing with rookie Geno Smith for the starting job, was unlikely to play in that game anyway.
The team did not announce the nature or severity of Sanchez's injury, suffered in the Jets' 24-21 overtime victory over the Giants on Saturday night.
Sanchez had an X-ray on the shoulder, which apparently revealed no fractures, after the game and an MRI on Sunday.
The Jets' announcement indicated that Sanchez likely does not have a season-ending injury. Still, he might not be ready for the regular-season opener against Tampa Bay on Sept. 8.
Giants Free safety Stevie Brown will miss the regular season with a torn ACL suffered in Saturday's loss to the Jets. The 26-year-old Brown, who led the Giants with eight interceptions last season, was placed on injured reserve.
Colts Andrew Luck's protectors are now taking their own hits.
Coach Chuck Pagano said Anthony Castonzo will not play in the preseason finale after an MRI confirmed the left tackle has a mild sprain of the medial collateral ligament in his right knee.
Castonzo was injured on the opening series of Saturday night's 27-6 victory over Cleveland and did not return. Right guard Mike McGlynn did not play after bruising his knee during practice last week.
Castonzo is listed as day-to-day, and Pagano said he hopes both will be ready for the Sept. 8 opener against the Raiders.
Bills Free-agent quarterback Matt Leinart, who played for the Raiders last season, signed with Buffalo. Terms weren't disclosed.
Leinart fills an immediate need at Buffalo's injury-depleted quarterback position. The Bills later acquired quarterback Thaddeus Lewis from Detroit for linebacker Chris White. Undrafted rookie Jeff Tuel also is on the roster.
Kevin Kolb left the Bills' game Saturday against Washington because of concussion-like symptoms, and first-round pick EJ Manuel is out for the rest of the preseason with a left knee injury.
Jurisprudence Former Tennessee Titans linebacker Keith Bulluck has been charged in Nashville, Tenn., with felony robbery after a cab driver accused him of taking money during an argument.
The driver was waiting outside a bar for a paid fare early Sunday when Bulluck approached him asking for a ride, police said in a statement. The driver said he declined and Bulluck grabbed him by his shirt, took a $100 bill and fled.
In a statement to The Tennessean, Bulluck described the incident as a "misunderstanding between me and the cab driver about getting my money back for a service not rendered."

But New Orleans' backups scored two touchdowns in the second half to help the Saints to a victory.
