Yuba City's Collin Altamirano, 17, will play 22nd-seeded Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany at 8 a.m. Tuesday on court 11 in the opening round of the U.S. Open tennis championships in New York.
Altamirano, who trains at Arden Hills, earned a wild card into the Grand Slam event by winning the USTA Boys 18 National Championship earlier this month in Kalamazoo, Mich.
Kohlschreiber, 29, ranked No. 25 in the world, reached the quarterfinals at Wimbledon last year.
The Tennis Channel begins broadcasting from the U.S. Open at 8 a.m., but it's unclear if the live coverage will include Altamirano's match.
