Re "Abortion bill advances" (Capitol & California, Aug. 27): Under the guise of a supposed need for more abortion access in our state, the state Senate passed Assembly Bill 154, which lowers the standard of care for the women of California by allowing non-physicians with just a few weeks special training to perform first trimester surgical abortions.
Calls made to abortion clinics throughout the state prove that a woman can get an abortion usually the same day or within a week. There is no lack of access and no need to put women at risk. Nurses, physician assistants and midwives shouldn't be performing surgery. The women of California should demand that Gov. Jerry Brown veto this dangerous bill.
