Re "Brown's shiftiness on display" (Dan Walters, Aug. 27): Does Dan Walters miss the irony in his chastisement of Gov. Jerry Brown for saying that "for those small minds that slavishly adhere to foolish consistency, their irrelevance is their reward?"
It is Walters and his conservative ilk, with their lack of mental flexibility and their incapability to compromise, that Brown surely has in mind. One can see what an entrenched philosophical mindset has done to the Republican Party in this state.
Throughout time, great thinkers have warned us of ideological stagnation. It was Ralph Waldo Emerson who said foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds. Think what you think today and think what you think tomorrow, though it contradicts what you said today. Be warned, conservatives out there.
