Re "Bee's arena stories: Fair?" (Joyce Terhaar, Forum, Aug. 25): I think your investigation and reporting on the sources of funding involved in the arena petition were fair. However, I think that your characterization of the petition has not been entirely fair.
In articles and columns that I have read, the petition and its supporters are often referred to as "anti-arena." The petition that I signed did't say anything about a vote being required to build an arena, or even for the city to subsidize it. Basically, it said that if the general fund is involved in a subsidy agreement, city voters will be allowed to vote on the matter. I don't think that it is unreasonable for city residents to have a say on an issue that may impact essential city services, especially since the same voters recently agreed to raise taxes to restore some of these services that had been reduced.
