Temperatures in Sacramento are expected to be near normal today for late August - around 92 degrees.

However, by Friday, daytime highs are predicted to be warmer, around 96 degrees. Weather forecasters say that kind of heat won't last long. By Sunday, daytime highs are expected to drop a full 10 degrees, making for a pleasant Labor Day weekend.

Lowering Labor Day temperatures should also help firefighters battling the Rim Fire near Yosemite National Park. Temperatures in Groveland, Tuolumne County, are expected to be in the mid-80s Sunday through Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

The detailed, 7-day forecast from the NWS for the Sacramento region:

Today: Sunny, with a high near 92. Southwest wind 5 to 7 mph.
