Delta residents and concerned citizens are invited to join a Delta Waterway Cleanup on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 10 locations.

The events are sponsored by the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta Conservancy and Delta Protection Commission as part of California Coastal Cleanup Day, held the third Saturday in September.

The conservancy is sponsoring cleanups at five sites: two at Lower Morrison Creek near Freeport, and one each at Clarksburg, Brannan Island and Owl Harbor Marina near Isleton.

The commission is sponsoring five more sites: Discovery Bay in Contra Costa County, the Sacramento River Parkway in Sacramento (Garcia Bend Park), Buckley Cove in San Joaquin County, Rio Vista (Sandy Beach Park) in Solano County, and Clarksburg boat ramp in Yolo County.

Also Sept. 21, the conservancy offers its first tire cleanup at Brannan Island. Delta landowners can bring illegally dumped tires for disposal at no charge. Bridgestone Tire is sponsoring the event by covering recycling costs. Anyone with more than nine tires to dispose of should call Susan Roberts in advance at (916) 375-2088.
