Re "Steinberg CEQA bill a small step forward" (Editorials, Aug. 28): The Sacramento Bee's editorial board is correct in recognizing that Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg's Senate Bill 731 is an incremental but important step toward correcting the distorted use of CEQA. Socially and environmentally beneficial projects such as affordable housing and transit-oriented, mixed-use infill projects have been tied up by narrowly focused opponents' aggressive use of the CEQA process.

CEQA streamlining should also be afforded to clean renewable energy projects such as solar and wind These projects are a critical components in our efforts to minimize the destructive impacts of climate change.
