No. 5 Pleasant Grove at No. 6 Rocklin, 7:30 p.m.
Outlook: A year after Dre Terrell hit Wyatt Demps for two touchdowns to lift Pleasant Grove over Rocklin, Terrell and Demps are back for an encore. Rocklin QB Logan Webb is coming off a big year (2,187 yards, 29 touchdowns), though he was a backup in last year's opener.
Logan-Union City at No. 4 Del Oro, 7:30 p.m.
Outlook: The host Golden Eagles will use their power-running game to counter the speed of the Bay Area powerhouse Colts in an Honor Bowl showcase. Mark Soto, the event coordinator, has more military tribute games scheduled in Southern California. Del Oro has two All-Metro leaders in OL/DL Tanner Woods and TE/LB Tyler Mateer.
No. 10 Vista del Lago at No. 7 Oak Ridge, 7:15 p.m.
Outlook: The host Trojans could use two quarterbacks in impressive sophomore Ian Book and the versatile Jacob Sipes, who also can play wide receiver, defensive back and special teams. Vista will counter with Matt Jimison, who passed for 2,592 yards and 37 touchdowns last season after taking over as a starter after a season-opening loss to Oak Ridge.
No. 14 Antelope at No. 15 Del Campo, 7 p.m.
Outlook: A first-time meeting between Division II Sac-Joaquin Section Division championship hopefuls is one of stark contrasts. Antelope looks to pass with QB Tyler McCombs, who threw for 2,057 yards and 24 touchdowns last season. The Cougars prefer a smash-mouth style with RB Austin Brown (1,077 yards, 21 TDs). Both teams have strong lines.
No. 12 Inderkum at Monterey Trail, 7:30 p.m.
Outlook: The host Mustangs rely on the veer with third-year QB Donovan Robinson, and the Tigers go with the wing-T, though QB C.J. Spencer also has some pistol looks. He passed for 1,673 yards and 16 touchdowns a year ago, and he opened 2012 with a 17-14 victory over Monterey Trail.
