Re "World War II/Syria" (Editorial cartoon, Aug. 30): Jack Ohman's editorial cartoon implies that the United States responded quickly and decisively to Adolf Hitler's crimes against humanity, and that in comparison President Barack Obama's response to Syria's atrocities has been hesitant and bumbling.
Syria's chemical attack on its own citizens occurred a week ago. Hitler was in power for eight years before the U.S. even entered the war. A conservative estimate of Jewish deaths in Germany before 1941 is 30,000.
In light of the above, taking one week to assemble and review all available intelligence in this matter before taking action seems prudent yet prompt.
