The National Weather Service is predicting morning showers and thunderstorms for the greater Sacramento region - primarily along with Sierra's western foothills and slopes - before 11 a.m. Isolated showers are predicted for the valley.

The precipitation, with grey, cloudy skies across most of interior Northern California, is the result of upper-level moisture moving northward ahead of a low pressure area off the Oregon coast, the weather service reported. High temperatures are also expected to drop as with onshore breezes coming through the Delta.

Today's high is expected to reach 86 degrees, with a slight chance of sprinkles before 11 p.m.

Here's a look at the 7-day forecast:

Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 61. Southwest wind 5 to 8 mph becoming calm in the evening.
