Regional digest: Altamirano will play in U.S. Open Junior tennis

Yuba City's Collin Altamirano, who lost in straight sets Tuesday to Germany's Philipp Kohlschreiber in the U.S. Open, still has unfinished business in Flushing Meadows, New York.

Altamirano will play in the U.S. Open Junior Tennis Championships beginning today. The event concludes next Sunday.

The 17-year-old Altamirano earned a wild card into the men's draw and lost 6-1, 6-3, 6-1 to Kohlschreiber.

Sac State women win two in volleyball

• Sacramento State opened its season with two victories in the La Salle Volleyball Invitational in Philadelphia, according to the school's athletics website.

The Hornets followed a 25-27, 25-15, 20-25, 25-21, 15-8 win over Bucknell with a 25-17, 25-19, 25-14 victory over the host Explorers.

Kayla Beal (Dixon High School) had 19 kills against Bucknell. Sloan Lovett had 10 kills against LaSalle.

• UC Davis lost twice in the Tiger Classic in Baton Rouge, La., according to the school's athletics website. The Aggies (0-3) fell to LSU and Texas-San Antonio.
