Re "U.S. lays out case for striking at Syria" (Page A1, Aug. 31): More than 100,000 people have died in Syria since 2011, so why does President Barack Obama want to intervene now? A fit of pique because Britain will not participate? An over abundance of testosterone? Or the possible loss of face if he pulls back from his "red line" stance?
Surgical strikes will not change the corner that Obama has painted us into. Either kill Bashar Assad and his entire family and install a puppet government, or let the United Nations deal with the problem. Crow and/or humble pie doesn't taste all that bad if you consider we have already sacrificed 101,000 soldiers, 297,000 wounded soldiers and more than $1 trillion dollars in Korea, Vietnam, the Gulf War, Iraq and Afghanistan.
Enough is enough. Throw away the "in the best interests of America" propaganda card and let someone else do the job.
