Re "Bill to update electricity rates has real merit" (Editorials, Sept. 1): I installed a photovoltaic system on my home in Rocklin to save money on my electric bill. Electric rates as they are now are punitive with a tier system that progressively charges you more the more you use.
The editorial says that solar users do not pay their fair share of high electric rates so the grid can be supported. I and all Californians are charged a fee each month for distribution whether I use a little or a lot of electricity. Are you going to penalize people who shut off their air conditioning systems to save money? If your bill is not high enough, are you going to penalize the poor and elderly who do not use enough? Why am I paying way more as a PG&E customer than the people living in Roseville? It is all for profit and this is another way of ripping us off.
