Placerville Police Department gets new chief from Modesto

Lt. Scott Heller, a 17-year veteran of the Modesto Police Department, has been tapped to be police chief in Placerville.

"While I'm excited to begin this new chapter in my career, it is difficult to leave the law enforcement agency I grew up in," Heller said in a Modesto police news release.

Heller held numerous assignments with MPD, including patrol, tactical patrol unit, robbery/ homicide, Stanislaus Drug Enforcement Agency Task Force sergeant, SWAT sergeant, commander of the Gang and Narcotics Units and assistant commander of the Investigative Services Division.

Heller has a master's degree in emergency services administration from California State University, Long Beach, and a bachelor's degree in political science from California State University, Stanislaus. He served in the Air Force before his police career.
