On my most recent visit, I dragged Mr. S. there. Yes, dragged is the correct word. We had just finished seeing “The King and I,” at the Wells Fargo Pavillion and were absolutely ravenous. The only problem was that it was 11:30 p.m. on a Friday night and there’s not much open in Sactown. So I called Broderick and was advised that they do serve food until midnight on weekends. Score!

Baked Bree makes vanilla berry lemonade
Even though summer is coming to an end, we can still remember it with homemade lemonade. Thankfully, lemonade can be a year-round summertime treat. When it is cold and blistery outside, I say instead of hot apple cider, we drink lemonade. What do you think? Reverse psychology? Or just an excuse to drink sweet and tart lemonade? Whatever the reason, lemonade just tastes better when you make it yourself. It is not difficult, but you do need to juice the lemons yourself. No bottled juice here. It makes all of the difference in the world. I fancied mine up a little with vanilla bean.

Who’s Cooking School Lunch? introduces Lucy Arechiga-Casares
Lucy studied hard at Fresno City College and earned all the certificates for a profession in food service. Taking the classes was difficult, she told us, because the classes were at night, and she worked days, plus had the four children. When her last child left home however, she went back to school again, this time at Fresno State, where she is now a sophomore, to study microbiology.
