Re "Heated debate at Syria hearing" (Page A1, Sept. 4): I'm a longtime Democrat and usually support this president's policies, but I do not agree with his plan to teach Syrian leader Bashar Assad a lesson through a military response.
Evidence shows Assad has done atrocious things, but bullies are not so easily intimidated. The president and Congress are trying to make the authorization short and to the point. I don't believe this is possible. U.S. intervention would overshadow worldwide condemnation of Assad's actions.
It's time to pay attention to public opinion against a military response. This is a perfect opportunity historically for the will of the people to change the knee-jerk military response of the ages. Let your representatives know how you feel.
