Re "When we sit together, the meal means more" (Forum, Sept. 1): Georgeanne Brennan's celebration of civilized gastronomy is a welcome antidote to some increasingly vulgar food trends.
It might be poaching fish in a dishwasher or coupling donuts and croissants into the grossly named "cronuts." On the Fourth of July, TV shows contestants cramming scores of hot dogs down their throats to a cheering crowd. Clearly, it's food pornography.
The experience of food should refine and elevate our senses and stimulate social exchanges of a like quality. We are what and how we eat. Just look around.
