Re "Obama lobbying for Syria strike support" (Page A10, Sept. 6): If there were doubts about the hypocrisy of U.S. foreign policy, they have been vanquished in our government's fumbling for excuses to commit a war crime by attacking Syria.
President Barack Obama cites the alleged use of chemical weapons as a justification to attack, yet the U.S. failed to do anything about Israel's documented use of white phosphorus against civilians in Gaza in 2008-09. There is also alleged use by the U.S. of cluster bombs, along with depleted uranium, against the civilians of Iraq.
If the administration truly is concerned about countries obeying international law, then we should lead by example. To start with, we should close the Guantanamo Bay, stop funding Israel's occupation of Palestine, end extrajudicial killings by drones and stop attacking other countries.
Let our mighty military not destroy yet another country, maiming and killing its people..
