Re "Obama lobbying for Syria strike support" (Page A10, Sept. 5): It's hard not to feel compassion for the masses of Syrians who have been through so much suffering. However, before we decide to play "savior" we must ask who is the enemy and with whom are we allying ourselves.
This is a civil war and as ugly as they get. Can our adding to the violence solve their problems? What will it do to our own already divided country? If our humanitarian sense dictates we must do something, why not help the hundreds of thousands of fleeing refugees through support to the countries receiving them.
Please President Barack Obama and Congress, no U.S. military involvement.
