The Photographer: Stephanie Walsh of Citrus Heights

Behind the lens: My daughter, brother and I recently spent 10 days in the southwest of Ireland. This was a dream trip for all of us, as my grandparents were from County Kerry. My daughter and I took a day trip to Galway one day and saw this deserted friary. This Franciscan friary was founded in 1389 by Gerald “The Poet,” Fourth Earl of Desmond. We felt a combination of awe that these buildings were still standing, and eeriness viewing the many tombs.
