Alyssa Anderson scored in the 71st minute and Kimberly Mata made five saves as host Sacramento State shut out San Jose State 1-0 on Sunday in a women's soccer match at Hornet Field, Sac State reported.
Anderson, a sophomore forward, scored on an assist by senior midfielder Raylene Larot to help move the Hornets to 2-3 this season. Anderson has scored three of the Hornets' four goals.
It was the second career shutout and first this season for Mata, a junior.
San Jose State fell to 0-6.
UC Davis (2-3) managed just three shots on goal in a 4-0 loss to Cal (5-0-1) in the USF women's soccer tournament in San Francisco, UCD reported.
Senior Gabe Silveira scored in the 47th minute as the Sac State men came back to tie Seattle 1-1 in the Copa de Causeway at Hornet Field, Sac State reported.
Silveira, who made his season debut, was named to the all-tournament team along with teammate Isaac Ikyurav, a senior forward.
"Tying is better than losing, but we feel at home that's a game we have to win, so although we're happy we came back and equalized, we're disappointed that we didn't win," Sac State coach Michael Linenberger said.
The Hornets (1-1-1) had other chances, but Seattle (0-3-1) goalkeeper Jake Feener saved a point-blank shot by Ikyurav five minutes into the match, and he made a diving save on a shot by Sac State freshman Trevor Jackson.
Substitute Eduardo Caldaza scored once in each half to lead Cal State Bakersfield over host UC Davis 2-0 in the Copa de Causeway, UCD reported.
Nick Grigoriev, Kevin Schulte and Matt Sheldon had two shots on goal each, but the Aggies (1-3) came up empty against Bakersfield (2-1).
