Re "Pensions in public sector rise sharply" (Page A1, Sept. 9): It amazes me how the middle class and poor have been brought into a position in which we are fighting to cut our own pensions.
Social Security, public pensions, private pensions: cut, cut, cut, and fight over cutting some more.
A retired police officer doesn't get Social Security, or very little, and hence receives a larger pension than other workers. Police officers also pay into their pensions, or receive a benefit in lieu of a pay raise to pay for their pensions.
So now you want to cut their pensions because not enough taxes are being raised after many years of tax cuts? How about if your Social Security were cut, along with your 401(k)? That's what you are trying to do to police and other public workers.
Why are we fighting over scraps?
