Judge orders community service for Beale drone protesters

Published: Monday, Sep. 9, 2013 - 12:44 pm

Five peace advocates protesting the Obama administration's killer drone program were each sentenced Monday in Sacramento federal court to three months on probation for trespassing at Beale Air Force Base.

U. S. Magistrate Judge Carolyn K. Delaney imposed 10 hours of community service on each defendant and ordered that, once that obligation has been met, probation will terminate.

The five are Janie Kesselman of Camptonville, Sharon Delgado of Nevada City, Shirley Osgood of Grass Valley, and David Hartsough and his wife Jan of San Francisco.

They were arrested Oct. 30, during a peaceful demonstration outside one of the main gates at the base near Marysville. Beale is home to surveillance drones that scout locations for armed drones capable of pinpoint strikes.
