Maybe this won't be a lost season for the Raiders and their fans after all. Most preseason forecasts had them winning no more than five or six games. And with a potential quarterback controversy, that seemed optimistic.

But if you watched quarterback Terrelle Pryor's performance against the Colts on Sunday, this season should at least be entertaining.

Pryor completed 19 of 29 passes for 217 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 112 yards, tops in the NFL on Sunday and a record for a Raiders quarterback.

Yes, he threw two costly interceptions, including one with 25 seconds left that sealed the Colts' 21-17 victory. He also was sacked for a 16-yard loss when the Raiders had first and goal at the Colts' 8-yard line with 1:13 remaining.

But anyone criticizing Pryor needs to remember that he nearly led the Raiders to an upset of the Colts – who were favored by 10 points – in Indianapolis in just his second NFL start.

Pryor was exciting to watch, often turning what looked like nothing into impressive gains. And he ended the quarterback competition, making expected starter Matt Flynn a backup for the second season in a row.

If Pryor can duplicate his performance – and reduce his mistakes – the crowd at Coliseum for Sunday's home opener will go nuts when he leads the Raiders to victory over the Jaguars.
