Re "Agriculture Department to require federal licenses for pet sales on Net" (Business, Sept. 11): Animal overpopulation continues unchecked and a surplus of perfectly good companion animals are put to death at a great cost to the California taxpayers.
The Internet is a huge source of those animals. The idea for new regulations for pet sales is much needed. Look on the Internet and you will find thousands of pets for sale. Unfortunately, few of them will find good homes and the rest will be euthanized. Enforcement and follow up of these sales will be paramount to the success of these new regulations.
Anyone who buys a pet over the Internet, sight unseen, deserves what they get.
