Re "Fines for top lobbyists, Hansen" (Page A1, Sept. 10): I signed a petition seeking a public vote on the use of city funds for construction of a new arena. I don't know if I signed a Chris Hansen-funded effort or another one. It doesn't matter. What matters is that all the signatures be counted to determine if there should be a public debate on such an expenditure.
Hansen's statement that he won't submit the signatures he gathered is reprehensible. They were gathered no differently than signatures gathered in other public interest campaigns. To withdraw them now disenfranchises all those who signed believing they were making their voice heard on this important fiscal issue.
