Re "California should lead on regulation of fracking" (Editorials, Sept. 8): The Sacramento Bee is spot on in supporting regulations for fracking in California and in supporting Senate Bill 4, which is landmark legislation that would help to regulate the practice.
California would have the opportunity to become the national leader for requiring oil and gas companies to disclose the kinds of chemicals they are injecting in to geologic formations, the locations where fracking is taking place, and to monitor local groundwater quality.
There are too many environmental unknowns about fracking. Now is the time to address possible long term effects. While some fracking already is taking place, there is still time to regulate the practice and require that oil and gas companies be held accountable for actions that may affect our water supply and the health of Californians far in to the future.
